This senior level Engineering Technician position is in support of Power and Energy systems, subsystems, equipment, and components. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the life-cycle for Battery Development; including prototyping, pre-production, model-making, fabrication, and testing support. The candidate must be able to properly operate test equipment and read schematic/wire diagrams. Must be able to perform electronic and mechanical tests in accordance with written test procedures as well as data collection and analysis. Shall analyze system level requirements to verify that test definition, objectives, plans, and acceptance criteria are sufficient to validate system requirements and operational needs; validate software test results are in compliance with test acceptance criteria; perform traceability analysis between test designs, cases, procedures and execution results; and perform Verification & Validation (V&V) functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide routine to complex technical staff assistance on engineering projects.
Conduct research and analysis of data
Prepare designs and plans
Perform field investigations and testing to gather data
Prepare and review various reports for a variety of engineering activities.
Prepare Technical Data Packages
Assist in Configuration Management
Participate in upper level management meetings, reviews, and audits
Conduct test and evaluation, and Trials Support.
Experience with the following is required:
Setup for Battery Testing – Entails selecting test cell for testing; preparing the test cell for the test; ensuring that the video monitoring and audio monitoring equipment is working properly; ensuring that the lighting inside the test cell is sufficient; selecting proper power supplies, loads, and test systems for the test; running cabling to inside of test cell; run cabling and instrumentation to the batteries\cells being tested; taking pictures and maintaining a log book with test notes; using Data Scopes to monitor voltage, current, pressure, and temperature.
Provide analysis of data to engineers after tests; troubleshoot electronic circuits\systems when not working properly.
Fabricate custom cabling by cutting to length, attaching various connectors, and soldering; use instrumentation such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, and monitoring cables to collect test data.
Backup of all data, pictures, and video collected during testing. Clean-up after all tests including the handling of hazardous material associated with the batteries. All hazardous material collected is put in drums and stored in a designated area until disposal is approved. Work with environmental to maintain waste water tanks. Maintain a respirator certification to use when around airborne contaminants. Maintain test cell area to be neat and clean; remove scrap materials, wood, metals, and cabling to associated scrap yards; maintain eye wash stations and fire extinguishers.
Associates or Bachelors’ degree.
Related experience/hands on experience could offset education requirements
At least 4-6 years’ experience with Battery testing
Drafting techniques, terminology, methods and instruments including CAD technology
Principles of Engineering and design
Knowledge of requirements of ASME Y14.100, ASME Y14.24-2012, ASME Y14.34-2008, ASME Y14.35M-1997, ASMEY14.41.-2012, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.5.1M, DOD-STD-2101, MIL-STD-31000A and/or other government/commercial standards as specified in the TI desired
This position may require some strenuous activity including standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, and twisting of the body. Some lifting over 50 pounds may be required.
